Grey box of MUFINS

MUFINS is another useful acronym; Multi-Fidelity Intelligent Network System for Crowd Monitoring. The grey box of MUFINS is a box containing a footfall system developed by the OPERA group of the Université Libre de Bruxelles. It has been installed and tested in the occasion of big crowd gatherings such as the yearly Christmas Market and other Brussels Major Events (EAT festival, Hello Summer, etc). It later re-appeared installed on the Rue Neuve during the first wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, to count shoppers in the street. It looked suprisingly similar to our own diy footfall system developed to run on openwrt routers.

The MUFINS setup is able to track thousands of phones and boasts an algorithm giving predictions about the development of a situation.
