Lost Smiley Banner

This banner was made in the building squatted on the 14th of December 2019 on square De Brouckère in Brussels by the “Ephemeral Collective of Enraged Fathers and Mothers Christmas”. The occupation wanted to draw attention to the growing inequality and injustice of a society that keeps such a building in the city center of Brussels empty for many years, while thousands of people are living in the streets or in precarious housing situations.

This direct action for the right to housing took place right in the middle of the Christmas Market occupying the square with an ice skating rink and food stands, spoiling the fake image of a city center turned into an amusement park for consumption. With such a visibile intervention the squatters didn’t expect the occupation to last long, and the building was evicted on the morning of the 20th of December.
