Now I Want A Straight Line Crossing The Square From North to South

A sound piece served on mobile phones by a wifi network in the center of Muntplein. Using a DIY footfall contraption the unique identifying number of the listener’s phone (MAC address) is used to generate a unique compilation of sound files. The sound files consist of observations of activity on the square organised in lists. In a mocking and playful manner, the piece directs attention to the hiden ways that the public square is subjected to a quantifying gaze. The piece was installed on the square on the event of Precarious Pavilions / The New Local in October 2018 and remained active until around January 2020.
